In the Chinese religion Tao the body is seen as a tier of three crucibles (tan-t'ien) on a cental column. The lowest cauldron or the three footed furnace was in the belly below the solar plexus, the second behind the solar plexus and the third between the eyes. Meditation began with rhythmical deep breathing. 'The heavenly fire of the heart' began to circulate and was impelled as if by bellows down to the furnace in the belly. Gradually the energy rose up the distillation column of the spine to the top of the head then descended to the second crucible. The energy then rose back to the top of the head and descended to the third crucible.
Taoist the inner alchemy possesses a striking resemblance to the basic beliefs of Tantra which claims to be the oldest religion in India. The Tantric meditation begins by visualising the inner central column of his spine the Shushumna as the axis of the cosmos. Up the Shushumna are strung a series of wheels or chakras. There are seven in total the seventh being at the top of the skull. At the base of the pelvis is the lowest chakra here sleeps the serpent Kundalini coiled around the inner phallus (linghom) with the tip of her tail in her mouth. When the Kundalini is awakened she straightens herself, enters the bottom Shushumna to travel up to reach the skull. The Tantric yoga is credited with many abilities of which one of them is the transmutation of lead into gold. The body is seen as a plant with the stem of the plant being a tree, the tree of life. These seven chakra points starting from the base to the top in sequence represent planets. The first chakra (the root chakra) is the Moon. The second chakra (the scral) is Mercury. The third chakra (the solar plexus) is Venus. The fourth chakra (the Heart) is the Sun. The fifth chakra (the throat) is Mars. The Sixth chakra (the brow) is Jupiter. The seventh chakra (the crown) is Saturn. Not only is meditation a way of enlightenment but also a metaphor for travelling along the milky way.
In The mysteries of magic by John and Anne Spencer. The Sephirothic tree is the Kabala tree of life. The tree is based on the fundamental belief that the human soul came from God and descended to the physical plain by way of the planets attracting characteristics from the planets in turn, a link to astrology. After death the soul would return to God discarding these characteristics along the way, but the journey could be made using mystical techniques during life through meditation and spiritual development. To ascend the tree, requires a certain purity of spirit attained through determination and focus. The first planet mentioned in the decent is Saturn and the planets fall in line with the chakras.

The temple of God on Earth Egypt, itself was patterned on a eternal of the supreme achievement of nature namely Homo Sapiens. This geographical representation of the human archetype had a spine, a head in the north and a body in the south along the spine represented by the river Nile lay seven temples marking the great mystical centres which where the Earthly equivalent of the seven main chakras in the human body.
